Research in our lab revolves around an interest in the sustainable management of water resources.

The question of sustainable management of water is inherently interdisciplinary and requires research at the interfaces of hydrology, biogeochemistry, ecology, social sciences and economics. My expertise lies at the interface of hydrology and biogeochemistry, but I am actively involved in collaborations with ecologists, social scientists and economists to explore other interfaces. I am motivated by research that seeks to understand emergent patterns in landscape hydrologic and biogeochemical responses and the role of humans in modifying such patterns with the overall goal of providing innovative solutions to water sustainability challenges. Patterns in landscape responses have been used to develop parsimonious, minimum calibration models that can effectively interface with climate and land-use change models. Modeling in our lab is complemented by experimental research to develop innovative, low cost, passive water quality samplers for surface and groundwater applications.
