Photos of Buildings and Travel

Northwest US: Mount St Helens and Paradise WA, by car and hiking. Annual snowfall of 30 ft is not unusual (and Iwas there to view a NPS building I had consulted on), and it sticks around -- this was July in Paradise. The destruction of Mt St Helens is still visible, two decades later. Photos
Ireland: A whirlwind tour of the southern half of Ireland. Fantastic, relaxing, comfortable. Lots of ruins, old monasteries, and pubs.  Photos
The American Southwest really is a special place. Amazing open spaces and an ancient culture with ancient buildings that still reverberates today. Photos
I've been on trips to Europe, since I was a kid, by various modes for various reasons. These have let me see the many sides of this amazing continent -- increasingly politically and economically unified, but still regionally distinct (& I love it).   Photos
Chris Luzine, Robin Hall and I traveled to Southern Africa in 2000 to capitalize on low prices generated by the Zimbawbwe farmer eviction (just kidding). The wildlife and scenery was wonderful, and the people generous ..   Photos
Chris Luzine and I first travelled together on a trip to South America. This was an amazing trip, and the Bolivan Amazon especially so, if difficult to photograph Photos
As part of a research exchange group supported by NRCan (thanks!) I spent several weeks in Japan over two trips, moving from south to North. We worked must of the time, but managed a weekend in Kyoto, and short visits elsewhere. Our Japanese hosts helped make this unforgetable.   Photos
As part of a United Nations project, I travel to Mongolia. Outer Mongolia is about as out there as it gets, but was a country that is more accessible to travel than many. Photos to come!   Photos
Chris Luzine and I jointed up to travel the Trans-Siberian / Trans-Monglian Express from St Petersburg to Beijing. About 7000 km on Russian trains with some interesting stops along the way.
