RESEARCH PROJECTS -- CURRENT

Principle Investigator: Dr. R. Schuster
Project Topic: "Web Crippling of Multi-web Deck Sections Subjected to End One Flange Loading"
Objective: Create the needed test data to establish the web crippling coefficients for this section geometry and load case.

Principle Investigator: Dr. R. Schuster
Project Topic: "Bolted Tension Members – Tension to Bearing and Shear to Bearing"
Objective: Establish the relationship between tension and bearing, as well as, shear and bearing. A series of tests are being carried out in an effort to establish these transition relationships.

Principle Investigator: Dr. Lei XU
Project Topic: "Vibration Control Design for Floor Systems Using Cold Formed Steel Joists"
Objective: Evaluate the vibration performance of lightweight residential floors supported by cold formed steel joists and develop a design guide to assure vibration acceptability for such floor systems.

Principle Investigator: Dr. Lei XU
Project Topic: "Innovative Computerised Truss Design Using Cold Formed Steel"
Objective: Bring advanced technology via computer software to promote the use of cold formed steel truss design in the residential construction industry.

Principle Investigator: Dr. S. Fox
Project Topic: "Bearing of Steel Studs on Concrete"
Objective: Investigate the concrete slab "edge effects" on the stud capacity, and develop an appropriate method for calculating the bearing stresses under axial load bearing steel studs.

Principle Investigator: Dr. S. Fox
Project Topic: "Alignment of Steel Framing and Bearing Stiffeners"
Objective: Determine experimentally if the "Prescriptive Method Details" as stated are adequate with respect to the maximum allowable tolerance in the in-line framing provisions.

Principle Investigator: Dr. S. Fox
Project Topic: "Clip Angles as Bearing Stiffeners"
Objective: Test a series of cold formed steel floor assemblies with clip angles used as bearing stiffeners to determine the mode of failure and strength characteristics.
