Your first year at Waterloo will provide a solid foundation in math and science. Your second year will expose you to engineering mechanics while continuing to build your understanding of applied mathematics. As your knowledge of engineering increases, we will teach you how to analyse existing engineering systems. Your final year at Waterloo will bring focus to engineering design and management. Our curriculum is multi-disciplined and you will be taught by professors in Civil, Environmental and Geological Engineering along with Faculty in Earth Sciences and Architecture.
Our program is rich in technical electives, allowing you to choose your own upper year courses and allowing you to specialize in the area of Civil Engineering of your choice. Civil Engineering is a wonderfully broad branch of engineering and you are free to specialize in any of the sub-disciplines of Civil Engineering such as structures, hydraulics and eco-hydraulics, transportation systems, flood forecasting, urban storm water management, waste water treatment, water supply, construction management, bioengineering and many more. If you aspire to be in management, our curriculum allows you to combine your civil engineering degree with an option in management science. You can also enhance your degree with Faculty options in water resources, environmental engineering and biomechanics or might choose to demonstrate a specialization in structures by satisfying the requirements for our structural certificate!
Finally, our world-renowned co-op program will provide invaluable experience in your chosen field, allowing you to put into practice the lessons learned in the classroom.
