Our current research themes include:
- Video force microscopy (VFM), a new technique that allows the forces generated in cells to be determined from time-lapse images
- Mechanical testing of cell aggregates (50-100mm in diameter), embryonic tissues (300-500mm in size) and planar biomaterials (3-6mm in size)
- Computational modeling of cells, tissues and embryos
- Neurulation, a critical process in which a sheet of tissue rolls up to form the neural tube - the precursor of the spinal cord and brain
